How to Start a Candle Business, North Carolina. Scentsy

So you have decided to start a candle business? First things first. Decide if you want to make candles from home by purchasing candle supplies. You could purchase candle supplies in bulk and wholesale as this would be the cheapest option. What kind of candles do you want to sell or make? Soy candles? Gel candles? What kind of wax will you use to make or sell candles? The wax is very important in determining the melting point. The melting point is the degree at which the wax turns from a solid wax to a liquid wax. There are a large variety of waxes used in candles. Candle waxes are either Petrolatum based, Soft Microcrystalline wax or to make it harder Vybar, Clear Crystals, Plastic addi

tives, Hard Microcrystalline wax, Stearic Acid (stearine) or a Universal Additive.

Paraffin Wax: Paraffin waxes are the most popular wax used in candles. Mostly because they are cheaper and paraffin wax is a byproduct of other products produced by the refineries.

Beeswax : highly popluar because of the natural honey aroma and beeswax has a lovely glow.

Soybean wax: is a natural wax, one of the newest candle waxes. Soy candle wax is made from a pure 100% natural soybean base and contains no herbicides or pesticides.

Other waxes used in candles are; Palm wax, bayberry wax, gel wax and jelly wax. Now, what happens when you light a candle to cause it to burn and send out an aroma depends on how you "melt" the candle. When you light a candle, the heat of the flame melts the wax near the wick. This melted or liquid wax is then drawn up into the wick by capillary action. The flame's heat vaporizes the liquid waxto produce water vapor and carbon dioxide (the same byproducts that humans produce when exhaling) A well made candle wax will produce NO smoke. Traditional candles cause soot. Most people with no allergies can easily tolerate the soot. But, for people with asthma, allergies and common breathing problems have difficulty tolerating a canlde in the home.

What is a Safe Candle? Safer candles are ones in jars and also ones using safe wax. Safe, food grade waxes, are preferred when burning a candle. Also, be sure to keep candles in a safe place when burning. Burning candles is one of the top five reasons for house fires in the U.S.

The safest candle I have discovered to use and inexpensive is Scentsy Candles. Wh at is Scentsy? Scentsy is a Wick-less, Smoke-free, non-toxic - Candle and Warmer System. Scentsy canldes are called "Scentsy Bars". Scentsy Bars come in an "ice tray" like container holding six cubes. Each Scentsy Bar "cube" last the same amount of time as a Full Standard, Jar Candle.

How to start the business:

After you have joined Scentsy and received your Scentsy Starter Kit, Have your "Launch Party". Your launch party is the first step in acquiring a customer base and a great way to introduce your family and friends to your new candle business!

Set your Scentsy Launch Party date as soon as possible! I usually say 7 days. This seems to be o.k and gives friends and family enough notice. Your Scentsy Party Presentation shouldn't last more than 30 minutes. I usually have an hour and half time slot for my Scentsy Home Parties.

Get your invite list together! Ask everyone you know and then ask them to bring a friend. A good point is to "over invite" to your Scentsy Launch Party. Think of every person you come in contact on a weekly basis and they should receive an invite to the Launch Party and given the opportunity to at least buy from your party if they absolutely cannot come. This brings to mind the "Turning No's into Yes's"

Turning a No into a Yes for attendence to your Scentsy Launch Party is really simple. For example; Let's say your "Aunt Molly" says she cannot attend because she has a baby shower. First thing you say is " I completely understand" and tell her this is understandable but then ask her"Aunt Molly, I have a catalog for you and a few samples, Would it be ok for me to drop them by so you can still be a part of my Scentsy Launch Party? I would hate for you to miss all the Launch Party Specials and you would be supporting my new Scentsy career." I have never had someone turn down a free catalog and if you present it this way ( where they don't have to do anything but accept a catalog ) they can't say no. Another example is when someone says " I really don't have the money for anything right now", you simply ask them to come and support your New presentation for moral support and then once the Scentsy presentation is complete, ask the to host a basket or home party. This way they feel as though they are helping and in return they are!

Scentsy Consultants who meet certain requirements are entitled to many bonuses.
In my opinion, Scentsy offers their family members ( consultants ) a wide variety of bonuses, commissions and incentives. Every month seems to be something new and brings the lists of "reasons to be a Scentsy consultant " to another high.

Below if a snippet from the Consultant handbook and I think a great education for those of you thinking of Joining Scentsy.

Consultants who meet and maintain the sales requirements for their rank, and are otherwise in compliance
with the Independent Consultant Agreement, qualify for commissions and royalties under the Scentsy
Compensation Plan. All commissions are based on a Consultant’s Personal Retail Sales of product.
Royalties are based Qualiﬁed Retail Sales of product. Commission and royalties are not paid on Starter Kits,
Business Supply orders, or Kit Enhancement orders.
If you reach Director Status and one of your Frontline Consultants becomes a Director, she is a ﬁrst genera-
tion promoted-out Director. If she promotes a Director from her personal group, the new Director becomes a
second- generation Director to you. You may earn Director Royalties on the group wholesale volume of both
promoted-out Directors if you meet the requirements outlined in this Compensation Plan.
If one of your Frontline Consultants promotes to your rank or above, her GWV will roll up to her next up-line
Consultant of higher rank, and you will lose her wholesale volume in the calculation of your group royalties.
However, if you advance to a higher rank than her or are promoted to the rank of Director, she
becomes recaptured.
In order to receive royalties as a Star or SuperStar Director, you may not work as a Consultant or in a similar
capacity with any other direct selling company. If you reach the rank of Star Director, your relationship with
the Company MUST BE EXCLUSIVE in order to receive royalties.
Earnings
• You earn 20% commission until your ﬁrst $1,000 in personal retail sales, and 25% on your personal retail
sales after your ﬁrst $1000.
• You can earn 2-9% personal sales royalty, based on the wholesale value of your qualiﬁed personal sales. The
% earned is determined by your “paid as” rank in the Compensation Plan.
• You can earn 2-9% team sales royalty, once you become qualiﬁed, based on the wholesale value of your
team’s sales. This % is calculated on any Consultant in your personal team who is at a LOWER rank than you
in the Compensation Plan. The % earned is determined by your “paid as” rank in the Compensation Plan.
• You can earn .25%-3% as a Director on your Director teams down through three (3) generations. The %
earned is calculated on your Director’s GWV. The % earned is determined by your “paid as” rank in the
Compensation Plan.

Incentives and Rewards Program
Scentsy gives each Consultant many opportunities to be recognized for superior effort and achievement.
Each award is designed to not only give the company an opportunity to pat you on the back, but also encour-
age you to do those things which will have the greatest positive impact on your success. As you strive to win
an award, or achieve a goal, you become a consultant who has a proﬁtable and enjoyable Scentsy experience.
As you familiarize yourself with the Awards available to you, you will learn what it takes to get the most out
of your time and effort.
Monthly Awards
These awards are given monthly to all Consultants who qualify. All consultants are eligible, and each award
may be earned numerous times.
Monthly Sales Award
Requirements: • $2,000 in Personal Retail Sales for the month.

OK.. day One of the Scentsy Independent Consultant Adventure.

Well, not really day one as I have been a consultant now since March 16, 2010, but this is the first day to blog about my Scentsy business Adventure.

April 20, 2010

I woke up to a sunny day all excited about promoting my business / website with Scentsy. First and foremost, my house spell AWESOME! Not just because I have a Scentsy Warmer with my favorite scent in each room, but because I have SO much inventory stacked throughout the house, that it smells like a candle factory in here. With 2 kids running around tearing up the world and a garbage can that fills up as soon as you take one bag out, I am truly excited that my home doesn't stink like: pampers, garbage,puppy, cool aid and any other food item you can throw into the mix.

With that said, although my hubby is very supportive, he is not to keen on smelling every scent ever made all at the same time. I wont even share with you his specific comments..lol

So, back to the subject at hand. I called several churches in the community to see if they would be interested in doing a fundraiser - boosts sales and gets your name out there - And lo and behold i get a few phone calls about setting up an appointment to view my scentsy products. So, needless to say I am super excited about all the possibilities. If March is any indication of how the rest of the month in the years will go, I have surely made a great investment into my future, signing up as a Scentsy Independent Consultant
